David J. Defrancesco has extensive experience advising employers on the laws of the workplace. He is counsel to municipal governments, manufacturers, retailers, public sector organizations, school boards, emergency services providers, warehousers and distributors, and construction companies.
Defrancesco has been repeatedly recognized as one of the leading labour relations lawyers in Canada by the Canadian Legal Lexpert and by Best Lawyers in Canada. He focuses on the representation of employers in collective bargaining, before labour relations boards, human rights tribunals, and in rights and interest arbitration hearings. He is often engaged to advise on workplace law issues.

Loretta Bouwmeester, KC, is a well-rounded, versatile, practical and decisive workplace law lawyer. She is a partner in the Firm’s Employment, Labour, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers’ Compensation practices.
Prior to joining the Firm, Bouwmeester worked at other National law firms in addition to working in-house as the Manager of Legal Services and Corporate Policy with a municipality on a broad range of issues. Cheryl A. Edwards is a senior partner in the Firm’s national Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers’ Compensation practice. A former Ontario OHS Prosecutor, Edwards has over 35 years of experience advising on strategic and practical approaches for management of workplace safety issues, including the complexities of OHS due diligence, contractor management, accident response strategies, and discipline for safety matters.
Edwards advises on multiple aspects of national and federal OHS policies and programs. She has defended and represented Canadian employers, constructors, senior management, and supervisors in some of the most serious and complex health and safety trials, complaints, inquests, and appeals.

Mark D. Contini advises employers, both union and non-union, on workplace issues. In addition to his consultative work, he speaks before human rights tribunals, in judicial reviews, before appellate courts, and is a frequent spokesperson for employers in collective bargaining and grievance arbitration. As well, Contini regularly speaks in seminars and presentations about new and pressing challenges in workplace law. He has served as the firm’s Managing Partner for 10 years (2011–2020).

Perry Thomas is a non-executive director and chair of the risk and capital committee. He’s an actuary with over 30 years of experience in financial services in roles including CEO, CRO and group chief actuary. He’s held directorships in the UK, Bermuda, Ireland, India, South Africa, Malta and Luxembourg and has been on the Council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Thomas is dyslexic, which he believes can bring a different perspective.
