Jan Goddard made her own path to the law practice she has today. Along the way, she served for 10 years as counsel at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee in Ontario, obtained a certificate in gerontology from Ryerson University and a mediation certificate from Osgoode Hall Law School, and founded and developed the law firm of Goddard Gamage LLP.
In 2020, Goddard was selected by her peers to receive the Award of Excellence from the Trusts and Estates section of the Ontario Bar Association. She was also chosen as Lawyer of the Year 2020, Trusts and Estates, Toronto by Best Lawyers in Canada. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers annually since 2009.
The expertise Goddard has developed in her chosen fields has led to her being a frequent presenter at continuing professional development programs in Ontario, a regular participant at the bi-annual Canadian Conference on Elder Law, a Distinguished Fellow of the Canadian Centre of Elder Law, and a sought-after volunteer on committees and advisory groups.
In 2015, 2016, and 2017, she co-directed the Elder Law Certificate program at Osgoode Professional Development. In 2015, 2017, and 2019, she co-chaired The Canadian Conference on Elder Law in Vancouver. She was a member of the Advisory Group to the Law Commission of Ontario’s major project on Legal Capacity, Decision-making and Guardianship.
Goddard currently serves on the board of the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE).

After articling on Bay Street in 1999 and working as a junior lawyer for the Walkerton Inquiry and then-Associate Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Appeal, The Hon. Dennis O’Connor, Nimali joined Jan Goddard as her first associate in 2002, became partners with her in 2012, and became managing partner in 2020.
Gamage’s practice includes both litigation and solicitor’s work and has a special focus on guardianship, powers of attorney, elder law, estate planning, estate and capacity litigation, and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) issues. She has extensive experience assisting families with disabled loved ones with their estate planning, litigation regarding mental capacity issues, and guardianship and ODSP advice.
She also has significant experience representing persons whose capacity is being questioned by others, whether they are involved in litigation, doing their own estate planning, or need advice on disability legal issues.
Gamage enjoys practising in this focused area of law as it combines her legal expertise and excellent communication skills with her ability to empathize with her clients. She also enjoys her role as managing partner and is proud of the inclusive, collegial, and hard-working team she leads.

Brittany Miller graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Ontario bar in 2018. She started her career with a respected commercial boutique firm in downtown Toronto, where she gained litigation and dispute resolution experience in everything from employment issues to shareholder battles. But she found her calling in estates and trusts law, which she enjoys due to its technical complexity and its emotional and human elements.
Miller joined Goddard Gamage LLP in 2019, became a partner in 2024, and is the firm's estate administration team leader. She is particularly drawn to drafting wills, powers of attorney, and trusts, and to estate administration – areas in which she can use her strong drafting, communication, and people skills. She understands that clients often don’t really know how or where to start in terms of their estate planning or after the loss of a loved one, and she appreciates the opportunity to be their guide.
Miller has been a member of the Ontario Bar Association Trusts and Estates Executive since 2022 and currently acts as co-chair of the Professional Development committee. She regularly speaks at continuing professional development programs on estate planning, administration, ODSP, and capacity issues. She was recognized by Best Lawyers in the “Ones to Watch” category in 2025.
