James H. Brown Injury Lawyers has earned its reputation as one of Alberta’s foremost personal injury firms through legal excellence, community engagement, and a practice built on compassion.
Founded over 30 years ago by James H. Brown, the firm was born from personal experience. Brown’s own career-ending injury instilled in him a deep understanding of the challenges faced by accident victims. This empathy became the cornerstone of a practice dedicated to changing lives, not just winning cases.
Since the beginning, leadership has played a defining role in how the firm has grown. James Brown built the practice with a clear purpose, and his son and partner, Trent Brown, has continued to expand its reach while holding tight to the same core values. His performance-focused, client-driven leadership has helped shape a culture that delivers legal results with heart.
That connection between vision and execution has earned the firm national recognition. James H. Brown Injury Lawyers was named one of Canadian Lawyer’s Top Personal Injury Boutiques of 2025 and received back-to-back Top Choice Awards for its reputation, results, and commitment to client service.
The firm handles complex, high-stakes cases involving brain and spinal trauma, catastrophic injuries, and wrongful death, an area of focus that traces directly back to its founder’s original vision. That experience informs every part of their work, combining legal skill with a strong sense of duty to the people they serve.
That difference shows up in the way the firm approaches each case with legal expertise and an uncommon level of care.
“It’s more than just ensuring full financial compensation; we tirelessly strive to secure the treatment [our clients] require to recover from their injuries”

“We’ve built a legacy of success by delivering some of the largest personal injury settlements in Alberta history. But what differentiates us isn’t just the outcomes; it’s how we get them. We listen. We explain. We fight, and we never back down,” explains Trent Brown. “At our firm, you’re a person, and we’re here to help you rebuild your life.”
It’s a people-first approach that runs on collaboration and accountability, where every client benefits from the team’s shared knowledge and commitment.
From the first phone call to the final resolution, the firm emphasizes accessibility, transparency, and advocacy. The team never treats clients as files; they hear them, guide them, and support them through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Community impact has always been part of the firm’s identity. That includes long-term partnerships with organizations such as the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Glenrose Rehabilitation Foundation, STARS Air Ambulance, and Little Warriors. Through these relationships, the firm has helped expand care and access across the province, with millions in philanthropic support going toward recovery programs and grassroots initiatives.
Recent years have also brought internal growth. The firm has adopted digital consultations, modernized internal systems, and improved efficiency behind the scenes, changes that make it easier for the team to move quickly on complex files while keeping clients in the loop. Leaders also continue to prioritize staff development, fostering a workplace culture that mirrors the compassion shown to clients.
That unity of values – community, performance, and client service – has become the firm’s greatest strength.
For the lawyers at James H. Brown Injury Lawyers, success is about the people behind the cases.
“Satisfaction is when a client walks away feeling stronger, more hopeful, and confident that they had someone in their corner who truly cared,” Brown says.
