Criminal defence demands more than technical skill. It requires preparation, judgment, and a disciplined approach to each case. That is the foundation Bottos Law Group has built its practice on, with a focus on doing the work properly, every time.
Named among Canadian Lawyer’s Top Criminal Law Boutiques 2026, the firm has earned its reputation through excellence in the courtroom. Judges and opposing counsel know that when a member of the firm appears, the issues will be properly framed, the law accurately stated, and the evidence carefully examined, with arguments grounded in principle and common sense.
Within the boundaries set by ethics, evidence, and the rule of law, the firm’s approach is deliberate. Some cases require forceful advocacy. Others call for a strategy that protects fair treatment and preserves a client’s dignity. Each path is determined by what best serves the client in the circumstances.
That work is carried out with a close focus on both the case against the client and in the client’s favour. Files are prepared with care, with each argument grounded in the evidence and expected to withstand scrutiny. The team takes on fewer matters than many, allowing time for full analysis and a considered strategy in serious and complex cases.
Dino Bottos, K.C., leads the firm, bringing more than 35 years of experience as a trial lawyer. His approach, shaped by study of the law and careful examination and cross-examination of witnesses, has set the standard for how matters are prepared and argued. That influence carries through the firm, where lawyers are expected to meet the same standard of diligence, professionalism, and craftsmanship.
“So long as you remain within the triangle formed by the rules of ethics, the rules of evidence, and the rule of law itself, you can fight like hell,” says Bottos.
“We think that top criminal law firms exemplify an insistence on doing things the right way, and a commitment to excellence,”
