“I’m so proud to see that through my hard work and that of my team, we have built trust with our industry partners”
Victoria Coster,
Credit Fix Solutions
David Sowemimo overcame early financial challenges as an international student to pursue his passion for law, seizing every opportunity to realize his dream. His experience working as an adjuster at Canada’s largest insurance company, where he collaborated with lawyers, doctors, and other professionals, instilled confidence in him that he could build a successful career.
After graduating from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law in 2015, Sowemimo articled at a precedent-setting law firm in Edmonton. He then worked at a large personal injury law firm before founding and becoming the managing lawyer at WatchMaker Injury Law, where he advocates for Albertans who have sustained serious and catastrophic injuries, primarily in motor vehicle accidents.
As the firm’s managing lawyer, Sowemimo leads a legal team handling complex personal injury cases across Alberta, including quadriplegic and paraplegic injuries, as well as multiple fatality accidents, often against multinational insurance companies and Crown defendants.
His ability to assess a legal issue from both sides of the spectrum comes to the forefront. He appears at the Court of King’s Bench, advocating for the rights of his clients, as well as at private mediations.
“The experience I have working at insurance companies as an adjuster gives me a unique perspective when dealing with counsel for insurance companies,” he says. “I get to assess the case objectively and then find the path to obtain the best outcome for our clients. This approach also gives you credibility with opposing counsel as it becomes clear that you are negotiating or litigating the case from an objective and reasoned perspective.”
He has earned a reputation as a strong advocate who is empathetic, willing to listen, and honest with clients from the start about their legal challenges and opportunities.
Canadian Lawyer recognized Sowemimo’s significant contributions inside and outside the courtroom as a Top 25 Most Influential Lawyer of 2024.
Outside the courtroom, Sowemimo founded an entrance scholarship for Black law students at his alma mater, which he considers his most significant achievement. He currently serves as a commissioner on the Edmonton Police Commission. He also takes pride in mentoring young lawyers and law students and gives his time and resources freely when called upon.
Managing client expectations and dealing with emotional clients can be challenging, but Sowemimo overcomes this through clear and upfront client communication, letting them know what to expect from the case.
“It is important to try to see things from the client’s perspective,” he says. “They have been through challenging times in their lives, and they are looking to you to assist them in navigating some complicated situations. Seeing things from their perspective will go a long way.”
Sowemimo is determined to build one of the strongest brands in personal injury, where the firm’s legal team is known for providing strong but reasoned representation for clients.
“We want to build a track record of the highest judgments and settlements in Alberta and be known for fair and ethical legal representation,” he remarks. “We also want to be involved in the community, providing support when called upon, expanding our scholarships, and doing our best to be involved in philanthropic initiatives in the legal community and beyond.”

Coster brings depth and breadth of experience to her current position, having joined the industry as a mortgage processor before leaping into broking. She later honed her credit reporting education and credit repair skills for several years while working directly for various brokers.
“Starting Credit Fix Solutions was a deliberate move, as I saw there was a niche in ‘no win, no fee’ credit repair that the industry didn’t currently offer,” she says.
As a CEO, Coster learned through business coaching that there are no challenges in business, only opportunities to learn and grow. She wholeheartedly adopted that perspective, enabling her to overcome the obstacles inherent in team management and implement new and improved systems. She employs several strategies for challenging situations, such as following routines, forward planning, sleeping well and exercising.
“If I make sure I look after myself, have a plan of action, and I’m organised, then I can overcome any challenge (opportunity to learn) if and when it presents itself,” Coster says.
A firm believer in the power of leadership, Coster strives to set an example that the next generation of women and men can look up to. She prides herself on her reliability and trustworthiness and is the first person to show up and the last to leave the workplace.
“I’m genuinely keen to keep bettering myself,” she says. “Even now, at the top of my game, I’m still always learning.”
Guided by her favourite quote, “It’s better to be green and growing than ripe and rotting”, Coster constantly stokes her curiosity and keeps an open mind about life and business. Her kindness, positive attitude, business acumen and dedication to her profession make her a trusted and valuable partner to her peers and the mortgage industry.
